Skrapar is a mountainous district in southern Albania, with Corovode as its main town, best known for the Osumi Canyon – a 26-kilometre river gorge with walls rising up to 100 metres in places. The canyon is one of Albania most dramatic natural features and can be explored by rafting in spring, when the snowmelt swells the Osum River, or by hiking along the rim trail that offers vertiginous views into the chasm. The region is also known for its traditional music, its rakia, and its fiercely independent highland identity.
Beyond the canyon, Skrapar is a landscape of steep limestone hills, terraced farmland, and villages that feel suspended in time. The district was a stronghold of the anti-communist resistance and has a proud, slightly suspicious attitude toward outsiders that melts into generous hospitality once you sit down at a table. Corovode, the main town, is a practical base with a few guesthouses, cafes, and a small market. The real experience is in the villages and the canyon.

From Berat, drive east on the road toward Corovode. The drive takes roughly 1 hour on a paved road. Free parking in Corovode. Canyon access requires a local guide or a 4×4. Ask at cafes in Corovode for rafting operators.
