Conditions vary sharply by region. Tirana and the central lowlands are usually cool and damp, with daytime temperatures often around 10 to 14°C. The Riviera is milder, but wind and rain can make coastal days feel colder. In the Albanian Alps and southeastern highlands, freezing temperatures and snowfall are common.
Where to go in January
- Tirana: museums, cafés, restaurants, and indoor attractions remain open throughout winter.
- Berat and Gjirokastër: atmospheric old towns with very few visitors, though stone streets may be slippery after rain.
- Korçë and Dardhë: good bases for winter scenery and possible snow activities.

Transport and road conditions
