- Kukaj Village: A smaller hamlet 3 km up the valley with traditional stone houses and wild camping areas, offering a quieter base with closer mountain access.
- Valbona River: The crystal-clear river running through the valley floor, with natural swimming holes, trout fishing spots, and riverside walking paths.
- Hotel Valbona Resort: Comfortable mountain hotel with modern rooms, a restaurant, and valley views. Doubles from EUR 45/night (half-board).
- Bujtina Rilindja: Traditional guesthouse in Valbona village with hearty home-cooked meals, a garden, and direct mountain views. Doubles from EUR 30/night (half-board).

How to Get to Valbona
From Shkoder via Komani Lake Ferry: The classic approach. Drive from Shkoder to Koman (2 hours), take the 3-hour ferry through the mountain gorges to Fierze, then drive 45 minutes to Valbona. The ferry operates daily in summer, less frequently in shoulder season.
From Tirana via Kukes: 5 hours by car via the A1 highway to Kukes, then the road through Bajram Curri to Valbona. Longer but more reliable year-round.
From Pristina (Kosovo): 3 hours via Gjakova and Bajram Curri.
Best Time to Visit Valbona
July – September: Peak season for the Valbona-Theth trek. All guesthouses and the Komani ferry operate at full schedule. Book ahead.
May – June and October: The valley is accessible by car. The trek may not be passable due to snow on the pass. Excellent for valley hikes, wildflowers in June, and autumn colors in October.
November – April: Snow closes the pass trek and most guesthouses. The valley is accessible only via Bajram Curri (not the ferry). A winter wonderland for those who make it.
