Lepushe is a remote highland village in the Kelmend region of the Albanian Alps, near the Montenegrin border, at roughly 1,200 metres elevation. It is surrounded by alpine meadows, beech and pine forests, and the jagged peaks of the Bjeshket e Nemuna range. The village is one of the most remote settlements in the Kelmend district, accessible by a narrow paved road that climbs from Tamare through increasingly dramatic scenery. The area is known for its traditional highland cheese, its wildflower honey, and its complete absence of mass tourism.
Lepushe serves as a base for hiking the border ridges that separate Albania from Montenegro. The trails are unmarked, the views are staggering, and the likelihood of encountering another hiker is close to zero. The village guesthouses are family-run and provide the kind of highland hospitality that has defined Albanian mountain culture for centuries: a bed, a hot meal of lamb and potatoes, and a glass of rakia on arrival. In winter, snow cuts the village off for weeks at a time.

How to Get There
From Shkoder, drive to Tamare (1.5 hours) and continue toward Lepushe. The road is paved but narrow. Allow 2.5 hours from Shkoder. A 4×4 is not necessary in summer. No public transport.
