Shiroke is a lakefront village on the southern shore of Lake Shkoder, just 3 kilometres from the city centre, and it is where Shkoder residents go when they want a lakeside lunch, a swim, or a sunset with the Albanian Alps reflected in still water. The village has a small promenade, several fish restaurants built on wooden stilts over the lake, and a pebble beach. The view across the lake toward the Montenegrin mountains is the reason to come, especially at sunset when the peaks turn violet and the water goes glass-flat.
Shiroke is accessible by a flat, paved road from Shkoder that traces the lake shore. It is close enough to cycle, and many locals do. The restaurants serve lake fish – carp and eel are local specialities – and cold Birra Tirana. It is unpretentious, reliably good, and a fraction of the cost of something comparable on Lake Ohrid.

How to Get There
From Shkoder centre, drive or cycle south along the lake shore road. Shiroke is 3 kilometres and clearly signed. Free parking along the promenade. A taxi from Shkoder costs 500 LEK. You can also walk or cycle along the flat lakeside path in roughly 30 minutes.
What to See and Do
- Eat grilled lake fish on a terrace over the water. Restaurant Shiroka is the most established. 600 to 1,000 LEK per meal.
- Swim from the small pebble beach at the village edge. The water is shallow and warm in summer.
- Walk the lake shore path south past the village into the quiet reed beds where herons and cormorants fish.
