Fishte, Albania

Mrizi i Zanave is a farm-to-table restaurant and agritourism complex in the village of Fishte that has become a destination in its own right, not just a place to eat. Founded by chef Altin Prenga, it sources every ingredient from the surrounding fields, orchards, and livestock pens you can see from your table. The menu changes daily based on what was harvested that morning, and the wine list is drawn from the vineyards visible on the hills behind the dining room. This is not a rustic roadside konak. It is a serious gastronomic operation that has been written up in international food media and draws diners from Tirana, Pristina, and beyond.

The complex includes the restaurant, a guesthouse with a handful of rooms, a farm shop selling preserves, cheese, wine, and olive oil, and the working farm itself, which you can walk through before or after your meal. The village of Fishte is in the Zadrima region of northern Albania, roughly 70 kilometres north of Tirana and 25 kilometres south of Shkoder, in a landscape of gentle hills, vineyards, and family farms.

How to Get There

Fishte is on the SH1 highway between Tirana and Shkoder, roughly 70 kilometres north of Tirana. Exit the highway at the Fishte junction, well-signed, and follow the road into the village. Mrizi i Zanave is clearly marked. Free parking on site. No public transport reaches Fishte directly. A taxi from Tirana costs 6,000 to 8,000 LEK. From Shkoder, roughly 2,500 LEK.

What to See and Do

  • Eat the tasting menu: The full tasting menu is the best way to experience the kitchen. Expect 6 to 8 courses of seasonal dishes. 2,500 to 3,500 LEK per person. Book ahead, especially on weekends.
  • Walk the farm: Before or after your meal, walk the farm paths through the vegetable plots, orchards, and vineyards. The staff are happy to explain what is growing.
  • Stock up at the farm shop: The shop sells wine (from 800 LEK per bottle), rakia, preserves, honey, cheese, and olive oil. Excellent value for the quality.
  • Stay overnight: The guesthouse has a few rooms (from 5,000 LEK per night). Waking up to a farm breakfast on the terrace is worth the overnight.

The Insider Checklist

  • Book the restaurant at least 3 days ahead on weekends. It fills up with Tirana day-trippers.
  • The farm shop accepts cards. The restaurant may prefer cash for smaller purchases.
  • Combine with a visit to Lezhe (20 minutes south) or Shkoder (30 minutes north).
  • If staying overnight, book the guesthouse well in advance. There are only a few rooms.
  • The restaurant is closed on Mondays. Confirm hours before making the drive.
