Gramsh is a small town in central Albania on the Devoll River, roughly 40 kilometres south of Elbasan. It is the gateway to the Sotira Waterfall and the Dumber regional park, a landscape of deep river canyons, pine forests, and traditional villages that sees almost no foreign tourism. The town itself is unremarkable, but the Devoll River canyon immediately south of Gramsh is genuinely dramatic: limestone cliffs rising 200 metres above turquoise water, with a series of swimming holes and waterfalls accessible via hiking trails.
The Sotira Waterfall, 15 kilometres south of town, is the main natural attraction. It drops roughly 20 metres into a cold, clear pool surrounded by beech forest. The trail to the waterfall is rough but manageable, and you are unlikely to meet another hiker. The area around Gramsh is also known for its traditional carpet weaving, a craft that has survived in the surrounding villages despite decades of rural depopulation.

How to Get There
From Elbasan, drive south on the road toward Gramsh. The road is paved and takes roughly 50 minutes. Free parking in town. A taxi from Elbasan costs 2,500 to 3,000 LEK.
