Lukove sits 20 kilometres north of Saranda on a plateau 200 metres above the Ionian, invisible from the main road. Most drivers blow past the unsigned turnoff entirely. What they miss is a village of 2,000 olive growers, a horseshoe bay with electric-blue water, and a beach so underdeveloped the only soundtrack is goat bells and wave slap.
The descent to Lukove Beach is a four-kilometre road that switchbacks through terraced citrus groves. The beach itself is a mix of white pebbles and rough sand, backed by a single seasonal bar and a handful of sunbeds. That is it.

How to Get There
From Saranda, drive north on the SH8 past Borsh. The Lukove turnoff is roughly 2 kilometres after the Borsh waterfall signpost. Unmarked, on the right, heading uphill. Follow the narrow paved road through the village and continue down toward the sea. The final two kilometres to the beach are steep; use low gear descending. Parking is a dirt patch behind the pebbles, free. No public transport reaches the village. A taxi from Saranda costs 2,000 to 2,500 LEK one way.
What to See and Do
- Lukove Beach: The main beach gets perhaps 30 people on an August weekday. Walk 300 metres north around the rocky spur for a totally private cove.
- Snorkel the rocks: The northern side of the bay has limestone formations underwater that attract octopus and small grouper. Bring your own mask.
- Old Lukove Church: In the village itself, a small 17th-century Orthodox church with a panoramic terrace overlooking the sea. The caretaker sometimes offers rakia.
- Eat at the beach bar: The seasonal kiosk on the beach does grilled fish and cold beers. 500 to 700 LEK per meal. Take what is fresh that day.
