Nderlyse is a tiny hamlet in the Theth valley, reached by a 45-minute walk from Theth village along a trail that follows the Theth River through a narrowing gorge. It is little more than a handful of stone houses and a small guesthouse, but the setting is extraordinary: the river pools into deep turquoise basins between polished limestone boulders, surrounded by vertical forested cliffs. The Nderlyse pools, as they are known, are the most beautiful natural swimming holes in the Albanian Alps, fed by snowmelt so cold it takes your breath away.
The walk from Theth to Nderlyse is one of the best short hikes in northern Albania. The trail is well-marked, relatively flat, and shaded by beech forest for most of the route. The pools at the end are the reward: waist-deep to chest-deep, impossibly clear, and cold enough that even in August you will hesitate before jumping in. The stone pools are natural slides worn smooth by millennia of water flow, and you can jump from the surrounding ledges into the deeper sections.
