Palasa is the first beach you hit after descending the Llogara Pass from Vlore, and the sudden transition from alpine switchbacks to open sea is genuinely disorienting. The beach is a vast crescent of white pebbles backed by a single row of umbrella poles and a handful of family-run seafood shacks. Behind it, the Ceraunian Mountains rise almost vertically, still showing snow in May.
This is not a party beach and it is not a resort town. Palasa is where Riviera veterans stop for a swim and a plate of grilled shrimp before continuing south to Dhermi or Himare. Some never leave.
The beach sits roughly 12 kilometres south of the Llogara Pass summit on the SH8, at the point where the road finally levels out and the horizon opens into deep blue.

How to Get There
Palasa is directly on the SH8 coastal highway. From Vlore, drive the Llogara Pass in roughly 50 minutes. The beach appears on your left as the road flattens out. From Dhermi, it is a 15-minute drive north. There is a wide dirt parking area directly behind the pebble line. No parking fee. Furgons between Vlore and Himare will drop you at the Palasa turnoff if you ask, but service is irregular. A taxi from Vlore costs roughly 3,500 LEK; from Dhermi, 1,000 LEK.
What to See and Do
- Swim the western edge: The far right side of the beach, facing the sea, has the calmest water and the fewest people. The pebbles are smaller here too.
- Palasa Monastery: A 10-minute drive uphill behind the beach, this small Orthodox monastery dates to the 17th century and has a single resident monk. Knock and you may get a tour.
- Hike to Dhermi: A coastal footpath connects Palasa to Dhermi in roughly 90 minutes. The trail is exposed. Bring water and do it early morning or late afternoon.
- Eat at Restaurant Llogora: Not to be confused with the hotel at the pass. This beachfront shack serves charcoal-grilled octopus and fresh sea bass for 800 to 1,200 LEK. Cash only.
The Insider Checklist
- No ATM. Nearest is at the Llogara Pass hotel complex 15 minutes up the mountain or in Dhermi.
- Sunbeds cost 400 LEK. About 40 available total. In August, arrive by 09:00.
- The wind funnels through the Llogara gap and can pick up suddenly after 14:00. Secure your umbrella.
- Mobile signal is weak to none on the beach itself. The restaurant veranda has one reliable spot.
- The water is noticeably colder than further south because of underground springs. Refreshing in July, bracing in May.
