Shengjin is a working port town with a beach, not a beach resort with a port. The distinction matters. The waterfront is a mix of fishing boats unloading their morning catch, container cranes on the northern breakwater, and a 3-kilometre stretch of sandy shoreline backed by a promenade of pizza joints and ice-cream stands. It is scruffy, honest, and deeply Albanian – the kind of place where an espresso costs 60 LEK and a sunbed costs 300, and no one is trying to sell you a timeshare.
The beach itself is wide, shallow, and sandy, with water that warms up faster than the deep Ionian further south. It is particularly good for families with small children: the gradient is so gentle you can wade 20 metres and still be waist-deep. The downside is that the water is not crystal-clear – the Adriatic carries more sediment here – but on a hot August day when all you want is a cold swim without a long drive, Shengjin delivers.

How to Get There
Shengjin is 8 kilometres west of Lezhe on a paved road. From Tirana, drive north on the SH1 for roughly 60 minutes, exit at Lezhe, and follow signs to Shengjin. Free parking is available along the promenade and on side streets. Furgons run frequently from Lezhe (100 LEK) and less frequently from Tirana. A taxi from Lezhe costs 700 to 1,000 LEK.
What to See and Do
- Swim and sunbathe: The main beach is sandy, wide, and shallow. Sunbeds cost 300 to 400 LEK. The southern end is slightly quieter.
- Visit the morning fish market: The port auction happens around 07:00 to 08:00 daily. Even if you do not buy, the spectacle of nets being untangled and catch being sorted is worth the early alarm.
- Climb to the Kune-Vain Lagoon viewpoint: South of town, the Kune-Vain protected area has a birdwatching tower overlooking the lagoon. Flamingos in winter, herons year-round.
- Eat at Restaurant Bora Bora: Beachfront spot on the promenade known for grilled squid, shrimp risotto, and cold Peja beer. 700 to 1,200 LEK per meal.

- Cash is king. ATMs exist in Shengjin centre but can run out on summer weekends.
- The water is not crystal-clear like the Riviera. Adjust expectations accordingly.
