Tamare is the main village in the Kelmend region of the Albanian Alps, a traditional highland settlement on the Cem River surrounded by jagged limestone peaks. The road from Koplik is paved and scenic, winding through a narrow gorge before opening into the Tamare valley. The village is a base for hiking the Kelmend trails, visiting the stone kullas of nearby villages, and experiencing highland Albanian hospitality in a region that sees very few international visitors.

The Secret Factor The Cem River canyon just below Tamare has deep swimming holes and natural rock slides in summer. Ask locally for directions to the swimming spot called Ura e Shenjterise

How to Get There

From Shkoder, drive to Koplik then follow the signs for Tamare and Kelmend. The road climbs through the Cem gorge and is paved. Allow 1.5 hours from Shkoder. A taxi from Shkoder costs 4,000 to 5,000 LEK.
