How to Get There
From Shkoder, drive southwest on the SH41 for roughly 30 minutes. The road is paved and well-signed. Parking is free along the pine strip behind the beach. Furgons run from Shkoder to Velipoje regularly in summer (200 LEK, every 45 minutes). From Tirana, the drive is roughly 2 hours via the new SH1 highway. A taxi from Shkoder costs 1,500 to 2,000 LEK.
What to See and Do
- Beach day the Albanian way: Rent a sunbed (300 to 400 LEK), order grilled corn from a beach vendor (100 LEK), and swim in the shallow, warm water. This is the core experience.
- Buna River kayaking: A small operator at the southern end of the beach rents kayaks for 500 LEK per hour. Paddle upstream into the protected wetlands.
- Velipoje Lagoon: South of the beach, this lagoon is a Ramsar site and a critical bird habitat. Walk the dirt track along the eastern shore at dawn.
