Vermosh is the northernmost village in Albania, tucked into a high glacial valley at 1,100 metres against the Montenegrin border. It is the last stop before the Prokletije massif, a scattering of wooden-roofed houses and family farms where cattle outnumber people and the only reliable entertainment is walking into the mountains. The Vermosh Valley is part of the Bjeshket e Nemuna range, and the hiking here rivals Valbona in scenery with a fraction of the foot traffic.

How to Get There
From Shkoder, drive to Koplik and continue north toward the border. The road climbs into the mountains and is paved but narrow. Allow 2 hours from Shkoder. A taxi from Shkoder costs 5,000 to 6,000 LEK.
