Voskopoje was once the largest city in the Balkans outside Istanbul, an 18th-century Aromanian centre of 30,000 people. Today it is a quiet mountain village of perhaps 700 people, 20km west of Korce. Five original churches survive with extraordinary 18th-century frescoes, including the Church of Saint Nicholas. A pilgrimage site for Balkan history.
